EMBRACING CULTURAL AND LINGUISTIC DIVERSITY: SEEKING UNITY WITHOUT UNIFORMITY

WELCOME TO THE FASP
CULTURAL AND LINGUISTIC DIVERSITY
COMMITTEE HOME PAGE MISSION STATEMENT

The guiding principle of this committee is to promote understanding, tolerance and sensitivity among all cultural groups. Our goal is to create awareness that cultural differences should not be regarded as disadvantages, deficiencies, or disabilities. We recognize that each individual is a unique human being. Thus, regardless of the educational problem presented by a student, his/her cultural and/or linguistic background may be a major component of the problem, a minor contributing factor, or another characteristic of his/her individuality.

Cultural & Linguistic Diversity Resources

New Resource!
Criselda Alvarado published a "Glossary of Special Education Terms" which contains more than 2,800 entries of specialized terminology that includes physical, mental, and emotional disabilities, DSM IV diagnosis, special education legal issues, general education, educational research, and psychological research. The glossary includes translations from English to Spanish and Spanish to English, and it is highly recommended for bilingual psychologists, monolingual psychologists who work with interpreters, and school personnel. You can get it directly at www.educationeval.com.
