WHAT WE DO
The general function of FASP’s Training and Credentialing (T & C) committee is to serve as a liason between FASP and Florida’s eight graduate training programs in school psychology. More specifically, some of our major tasks are to work to improve training of school psychologists in Florida, provide information regarding school psychology certification and licensure in Florida, accumulate and disseminate information about financial assistance for graduate students, monitor availability and quality of internship sites, and articulate and promote the knowledge bases and competencies needed for a smooth transition of students from the training programs into applied settings.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE
Certification and licensure can be somewhat complex here in Florida, so the T & C committee would like to help clarify these issues with the following information and the accompanying links to relevant websites.

Certification
To be employed as a school psychologist in a Florida school, a person must hold a Florida Department of Education Certificate as a School Psychologist.

To view information regarding the steps to certification of Florida educators, see http://www.fldoe.org/edcert/pathways.asp. To view information specific to the Florida Teacher Certification exam (including how to apply and testing dates) see www.fldoe.org/asp/ftce/

For more information on the specialization requirements for Certification in School Psychology, see www.fldoe.org/edcert/rules/6A-4-0311.asp.
For information regarding the National Certification Program for School Psychologists (NCSP), see www.naspweb.org/certification.

Licensure
School psychologists in Florida may be eligible for School Psychology Licensure, which will allow them to engage in private practice and/or work in an agency outside of the public schools. School Psychology licensure is provided by the Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance. Criteria include obtaining the appropriate degree(s), having 3 years of supervised experience as a school psychologist, and receiving a passing score on the School Psychology specialty area exam administered by the Educational Testing Service. For more information regarding licensure, see www.doh.state.fl.us/MQA/index.html.

Finally, school psychologists holding a doctoral degree may be eligible for the general Psychology Licensure. For more information, see http://www.doh.state.fl.us/mqa/psychology/psy_
lic-ppy.html

For more information specific to obtaining school psychology licensure please go to

Critical Shortage
The Florida Department of Education's Office of Student Financial Assistance offers the Critical Teacher Shortage Tuition Reimbursement Program (CTSTRP), which provides financial support to publicly-funded school employees who hold a valid Florida Teacher's Certificate or Florida Department of Health License. The 2005-2006 Critical Teacher Shortage Areas for the CTSTRP include school psychology.

INTERNSHIPS
FASP's Internship Standardization Process for the 2011-2012 school year requests students to apply in the month of January and interview in the month of February. Click here for FASP recommended guidelines!

Students, are you interested in information regarding internships? If so, don’t miss our Internship Guide! This guide shows which counties have internships, names and numbers for the contact person, and all of the perks regarding each site (the counties in green have not been updated)!

FINANCIAL AID RESOURCE HANDBOOK FOR SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY
This helpful guide is published by FASP and developed by the T & C Committee for the purpose of providing financial resources for individuals interested in studies in school psychology. Contents include state scholarships, national scholarships, private scholarships, miscellaneous scholarships, and additional resource information. This guide was last published in October, 1999. The latest edition may be downloaded by clicking on the title above. (Adobe Acrobat Reader is required.)
